MEET OUR INSTRUCTOR

Choosing the right ground school instructor can make the difference between simply passing a test and becoming a confident, capable pilot. Michael Brinkman brings more than 47 years of real-world aviation experience into the classroom.

Michael Brinkman

Michael holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with over 4,500 hours of total flight time and extensive turbine experience, including type ratings in the Citation 500 series as Pilot in Command, all Learjet aircraft as Second in Command, and the Gulfstream G-IV as Second in Command. This depth of experience allows students to learn how aviation really works, not just what appears in a test bank.

Michael is also a retired Air Traffic Controller with 30 years of experience in both terminal and enroute environments, providing students with a unique understanding of how pilots and controllers think, communicate, and make decisions in real time. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and has taught Air Traffic Control at the collegiate level at Middle Georgia State College. As an FAA-certified Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI), he is authorized to teach both Private and Commercial Pilot ground schools.

With recent changes to the FAA Private Pilot knowledge test shifting to a scenario-based format, this level of experience is more valuable than ever. The FAA is no longer testing simple memorization—they are testing judgment, risk management, and real-world decision-making. Michael’s instruction is built around understanding why decisions are made, how situations unfold in actual flight operations, and how to apply knowledge in realistic scenarios. This approach gives students a significant advantage over online courses that focus only on teaching the test.

If you want more than rote answers—if you want to truly understand flying, communicate confidently with ATC, and be prepared for real-world situations—this ground school is designed for you.
